Supervision & Consultation
I offer consultation for beginning and more seasoned therapists who are seeking to deepen their work through embodied experience, self-reflection, and clinical application of theory. I am available for one-time and on-going consultation.
The word, "Theory" comes from the Ancient Greek words:
theōría:"contemplation, speculation, a looking at"
theōréō "I look at, view, consider, examine"
théa "a view" + horáō "I see, look"
Much of our task as therapists requires that we learn to increase our capacity to tolerate intense feelings and maintain our ability to think, to use our minds in service of the therapy. Deep thinking is embodied.
I can help you to:
My clinical thinking is deeply influenced by Psychoanalytic, Relational, and Somatic theories. I am a good fit for someone who wants to integrate their thinking and feeling in service of therapeutic work and who is open to working relationally within the supervisory/consultation process. This requires a deep commitment to self-knowing and profound honesty with oneself. At times this can be difficult, vulnerable work. You can expect me to be warm, engaged, and straightforward... with an openness to whatever we discover. All of this comes (as always) with a healthy dose of humor.

I can help you to:
- Embrace counter-transference as a primary tool to make sense of what's happening in the client's internal world
- Identify and hone your particular strengths and gifts so you can learn to trust your instincts
- Recognize and keep in mind your limitations and growing edges as a therapist
- Avoid burn-out and compassion fatigue
- Uncover your voice and vision as a therapist
- Build a thriving career that has meaning for you

"Even the individual person hates housing or developing a new idea, because if you do, it is inevitable that you feel you should have got it right the last time. The inevitable discovery that you have been mistaken is a dreadful thing to discover. It also carries with it the feeling that if your own ideas change, then all the problems that you have ever solved are re-opened because they have a relationship of things-not-oneself with oneself. You can appreciate how confusing this gets."
